First Day of 3rd and 5th Grade 2013-2014

We began our new school year on August 13th. Dennis was headed back to school for meetings and classroom preparation, so it seemed like a good time for us to begin as well. Maybe it is because I have the choice to start when I like, it doesn't seem "early" to begin in August. Besides being on the same schedule as Dennis, starting in August gives us a chance to get in some relaxed school time before the busyness begins. And what I really like is that we'll be done by Memorial Day. I have always found it hard to continue with school after this three-day weekend. So while others were able to "play" for the rest of August, we can look forward to "playing" all through June while they're still in school. It's all the same really as we all do the same number of school days.

Even before the kids made their way into the office on the first day, Tommy found his place on Ellie's desk. He joins us every morning either taking over a good portion of one of the kid's desk, looking out the windows, poking at me to pet him or jumping in my chair as soon as I get up. He is a funny cat!

While everyone else has posted pictures of their kids in various states of school uniforms on their first days, my kids spent their first day in their pj's! This is their preferred school attire most of the year.

Josh is an industrious 3rd grader this year.

Ellie is our beautiful budding 5th grader.

In our first Bible study for the year, we are studying Genesis 1 and 2. We also began our history lessons with Creation and are covering swimming creatures in science. Ellie had seen the comic below and was reminded of it as we began our studies. She drew this on the white board for a little first day of school humor.

We had a good first day. Hope it's a sign of things to come!
