I had great plans for art this year, but somehow the purposeful kind keeps getting pushed aside. The kids make their timeline figures and ocean creatures for their science poster, but the creation watercolor and drawing through history I had planned just sits on the shelf.
We received some great collage material for Christmas, and I did have the kids create an ocean picture. I loved how they both chose different types. I think it shows a bit of their personality - Ellieosh is less structured but J likes things neat and orderly.

We were covering the first Olympics right around the time the winter Olympics were going to begin. I had seen some figures online depicting the Olympic events. I had the kids choose one and duplicate it. I offered some patterned paper, but they chose to make their own patterns with crayon.

Then I began to look around our house and saw different art just about everywhere I looked. Josh actually made some pictures a while back using colored macaroni I had. I told him this was a type of collage as well.

This is my favorite!
Ellie loves to draw. She has pictures just about everywhere - in folders in her desk drawer, on her walls in her room, around her desk in the office, and she sends them in notes and cards.

She's been practicing this girl for a while now.
The kids are being creative in their own ways on their own time. They also both create with their Legos. While some things are kept together based on the plans, a lot of it is from their own imagination. Often, Josh likes to do the creator parts of Wii games instead of just playing the game. So I feel less bad about not being purposeful; but I'll still try to work my original ideas into our school days as we go along.
