Aquarium of the Pacific 2014

This year we went to the Aquarium of the Pacific with our homeschool group instead of on our own during the aquarium's homeschool days. It's always a long wait to get in when we go as a group. Also, on homeschool days, the classrooms are open to everyone. In order to participate on a field trip, we had to pay extra. So I think next year, we'll go on our own!

But in spite of that, we had a fun day. We carpooled with our friends which made for an enjoyable drive there and back. The weather was sunny and warm. We got to see and touch some very cool animals. And we learned a thing or too also!

Shark Lagoon

Southern California Steelheads. These fish are born as trout in the rivers. Some remain in the river for life while some choose to migrate to the Pacific Ocean, undergoing a change in color as they do. Those that migrate to the ocean will return to the river to spawn. Very interesting!

Lorikeet Forest
Ellie was a popular girl!

Josh didn't want any nectar, but then changed his mind and wanted to try to get a bird on his arm. Didn't happen unfortunately, maybe next time!
Love the deep ocean animals.
We didn't see any penguin chicks; but our kiddos had fun posing with these life size penguins.
Moms and their girls
Josh was very brave on this day and actually touched things in the tide pool!

Tropical fish make for a nice photo op.

Ellie snapped this shot of a manta ray during feeding time. Looks like a happy face!
